*********************************************************************
Greetings from Irae
*********************************************************************
The orphanage of Irae, ran by the convent of the Sacred Heart Cathedral,
has reported the finding of a young boy. The boy appears to be about
ten to twelve years of age and was found asleep atop a snow drift in the
garden outside of the convent.
Prioress di Medici claims that Sister de Saindora, a young new nun at
the convent, was the one to come across the boy. Sister de Saindora
did not speak with us long when we went to inquire further.
She did assure us that the boy, though he was injured and suffering the
effects of the cold, is expected to make a full physical recovery. Still,
the boy suffers amnesia from whatever befell him before being found by
Sister de Saindora, and therefore his name and parents are still unknown.
Below is a picture of the boy. If you recognize him and or have any news
of his parents or what happened to him, you are urged to contact the
Sacred Heart Orphanage in Sanctus Irae.

Greetings my fellow writers and much welcomed readers,
I have the pleasure to lead you on a monthly journey through the tales of
Arborlon. Who am I? Why, my apologies...I should have started off with a proper
introduction. My name is Mordikay, at your service. I probably should specify
that my name is Mordikay the White as there are more of us amongst you than you
might expect. We are owls that roam the lands to gather information, find those
that are being searched for and any other assignment that might be laid upon
us. Please excuse my long intro but I want to ensure that you are aware where
your news come from and how they have been gathered. And now, with no further
ado, I will proceed to tell you what news have come to me this month.
It was but a few mornings ago when I flew over a large gathering of high
esteemed elves, all eagerly involved in a debate. Thanks to an old oak, I was
granted a first class seat to sit in and find out just what the talks were
about. To my own surprise I found myself listening to a much heated discussion
concerning the "Golden Wing Wizard Tournament". The very contest my own master
had been participating in! Even though the festivities had ended two nights
ago, it was still _the_ talk amongst the mages.

Elladan Telrunya, the winner of mentioned tournament, was challenged by the
runner up Gulradir Elensar. According to Gulradir's camp, rules were bent and
even broken to usher Elladan, the judges golden child, to victory.
A council was quickly formed to look into the accusations and upon further
investigations Elladan's title was confirmed and he was, again, pronounced
the winner of the respected "Golden Wing Wizard Tournament".
Unfortunately Elladan was not able to enjoy this victory for too long, for he
mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth. Some said, he took off with
one of the jurors daughters, others suspected Gulradir's hands in it. In the
end, no one could say for sure.
Night time was approaching fast and the talk beneath the old oak was slowly
coming to an end. One could only assume as to what truly happened. Perhaps the
truth would find its way to emerge one day.
Good versus Evil, a never ending circle...maybe even necessary to keep a
balance. But what do I know? I am but an old owl, only here to serve.
I will now sum up the news as they have been gathered throughout the realms.

An army mobilised...
*Written on a weathered parchment*
Due to the actions of a certain 'other' nation our armed forces are hereby
ordered to mobilise and prepare for deployment to defend our allies with
whatever force is deemed suitable. It is said that such actions must be
put into effect, however we will not standby and watch another nation
warmonger with the rest. All military staff are hereby recalled to the
sands to await further orders.
Furthermore, our navy is also recalled and will act as the 'police'
force to defend other nations and trading.

Attention, glorious Il'Khan of Krozloy!
Preparations have been made, and the time draws in at last! War has
come to the Realms!
With gauranteed support from the giants of the southern mountain
range, Kragash Bonehewer intends to smash the lines of the foe!
All those who have been trained in the ways of the warrior are expected
to report at the southern gates of Krozloy, ready for battle. Scouting
reports have confirmed the presence of a sizeable force amassing just
a short distance from our walls.
All miners are expected to be producing at double capacity for the next
month, to make up for the setbacks of the past three. Those caught
slacking will be executed.

Vale Details!
As usual, life in the vale of Nidaros is fairly quiet. The only disturbing bit
of information was the disappearance of several travelers through the vale.
This mystery remains sadly but will hopefully be solved with a happy end.
In other news, the winter stores are half filled and we hope that by the
harvest in two months time, the stores will be full and ready for winter.
Gnome Happenings!
Bontis Holly would like to announce the engagement of Lydeiros and Christoln,
who after many months of courtship bliss after their profession to court at
the Spring Festival, will soon be undergoing the binding ceremonies once they
agree upon a date.
Gnomishness!
Young Tiren Gramblemire would like to ask if anyone has seen a one-eyed toad.
Seems said toad was lost while he and some other children where playing in the
spring outside the city gates. If anyone sees said toad, please return him to
Tiren.

Gnome Naughtiness!
Zaqero, the local drunk was arrested again three days ago and remains in the
hollow tree. He is arrested for harassing Juniper Fernstill while she was
walking home that evening. Juniper says he was very persistent and wouldnt
leave her be. He kept insisting, she says, that her hat was possessed and
must die and hence, he stole her hat. No word yet on how long he is to be
held or what his sentence will be.
The hat, sadly, did not survive.
Bot News!
Yes, most gnomes are bots. They all report that they are still botting and
botting to the best of their bot abilities. It is still our hope to one day
convert bots to active gnomes but so far, no cure has been found.

/ Freeing the Slaves - Lomar War - Nackle \___________________________________
|_____________________________________________________________________________\
Nackle waited patiently as Elder Wisdom Tiniegh lay her blessings upon the
small band of men gathered with him in ready. He stayed his ground when she
collapsed but asked a few around him to hide her for safety.
When they were finished, he looked again to the battle that lay ahead of them.
"Kin, Soldiers, My Friends and Family.. We will head in now. Remember what we
are here to do. Remember that your bravery goes as far as getting to the tent
that holds the slaves, freeing them all, and heading them out. Do not try to
be a hero today, but a savior. Let the tall ones do their jobs, fight only if
you are cornered. But most of all, look out for each other."
With that, he saluted his men with a thump to his heart and a touch to his lips
with his fingertips before raising his arm high to the Deities.
"We head out!" He yelled with a might.
Small figures came out of the cluster of trees at a full run. Their small
legs carrying them at great speed.
The mere sight of such small beings suddenly darting through open legs of men
in battle stance, around bodies struggling upon the ground, was so out of the
ordinary that it caused quite a few tall men to be caught off guard by whoever
they were fighting.
When some of the slave traders realized the Gnome were invading, they tried
sweeping at them with their clubs, swords, maces and feet alike.

|_____________________________________________________________________________\
Nackle watched as one of his soldiers landed on his back with a groan after
being hit square in the chest with the heel of one mans boot. Grabbing two of
his kin to a halt, he nodded towards the scene.
Just as the man was about to bring his blade down into the chest of their
fallen kin, one of the soldiers he stopped placed himself behind him, on all
fours. Nackle watched as not only the second man that he stopped, but several
more gnomes who had been running a bit behind, ran at the man with full force,
jumping into the air at the last minute and planting their feet into various
sections of the mans legs.
As the man fell over, the gnomes regained their standing and Nackle stepped up
to face the man.
Swinging a club down upon the mans forehead, he wasted no time in dealing with
the situation.
"Move! Move! Make haste!" He yelled, and again they were running.
When they at last reached the Tent that they had watched the slaves being taken
to on a daily basis, they brought out their small daggers and began making
entrance into it.
Nackle was shocked to see only one male Drow standing guard at the tents flaps,
nervous and preoccupied with watching the battle happening around their tents.

/ Freeing the Slaves - Lomar War - Nackle \___________________________________
|_____________________________________________________________________________\
Motioning to several of his men, they approached the Drow from the back. As
they tiptoed closer, Nackle produced a long rope from the knapsack he wore.
Handing one end down the line to his right, they paused.
"Now." he whispered to them. At a full run, they ran up to the Drow, circling
around his feet in a wide arc that grew smaller as they wrapped the rope around
his ankles.
Nackle felt the sharp heat in his shoulder before he realized that a dagger was
the source. His hand reached over his shoulder, trying desperately to pull the
vile thing from his body.
Falling onto his bottom, he panted as he watched his loyal soldiers take the
Drow down onto the ground. Small arms raised and lowered repeatedly as they
beat upon the Drows head, chest and groin until he lay quiet and bloody, his
eyes glazed and staring at Nackle as if giving him a last mock over the blade
in his shoulder.
"Hurry men.." He panted out, his vision was beginning to wane. The dagger must
have been poisoned.
Dark void took over him as he slumped over.
The soldiers freed every slave in the slave tents as quickly as they could.
Telling each in turn to stay put until they could all escape as a group. Two
of the soldiers stood near the tent flaps as they watched the war outside

One of the soldiers took Nackles unconscious body over his shoulder and snuck
out ahead of the rest, weaving between men in battle.
The rest of the Gnome Soldiers readied the slaves for the run. Some were weak
and ill-nourished and had to be carried by other slaves. The younglings were
found too, scared but elated.
When the tent flaps were thrown open and the slaves and Gnome began pouring
out, madness erupted. The slaves stayed in a tight group as they fled outwards,
heading for the line of trees they were told to head out to. The Gnome Soldiers
encircled them, their daggers and swords and bow at ready. They had to slow
their running pace to stay with them but they ran, and they sliced the ankles
of many foe before they reached the edge of the battle.
It seemed to some, that after meeting the edge of their freedom, the slaves
began running even faster, fast enough that the Gnome were able to return to
full run.
A group of Twenty Gnome stopped a few dozen yards away from the battle and
turned, ready for battle. Any who followed after them would be killed. They
could stand no chances of being found while they regrouped to leave.

|_____________________________________________________________________________\
Thirty three fights did occur at that standpoint. Thirty three dead slave
traders were left behind.
The Gnome death toll was low, only five brave Kin died that day. Their remains
were taken home.
Nackle smiled while being told of their feats as he slowly regained his health,
and wept for those who had fallen. But the Younglings were home and safe. And
those slaves that they retrieved, were well taken care of and accompanied to
their home lands over the next couple of weeks, by the Gnome Scouts, Led by
Tiniegh Tumbleweed.
Nackle quietly awaited her return while he slowly regained his health. The many
Druid of Nidaro's had saved him from the poison as it tainted his blood.
There were many nights that he was thought to be dying, but he survived.
He was told afterwards, that had it not been for Tiniegh's quick actions
to put the poison at a halt within him, he would surely have died.
For that, he would thank her.

A Survey: If you quit realms tomorrow but got to do one thing beforehand, what
would it be?
A vague question, but there is a common reoccuring theme among many of the
responses I received. That is, to take down another player with them. Some
in jest, others, perhaps not. Below are the responses.
Someone: Get Vache destroyed forever.
Niguel: I think i'd bring back illegal pkill and take off pkill tagging and
then kill some annoying peacefuls :D
Someone: Balhazur the lounge
Someone: To be givin Immortality for 24 hours. This way I could hell,
balhzurd, silence few players who really earned it. I could slay few
friends just for the kick of it.
Someone: I'd delete all the oog stuffs from the game so everyone is on the
same playing field
Vedder: An illegal pk.. never done that, and kinda want to in a twisted
sorta way..
Someone: I'd kill nick and then drop and sacrifice all of his gear in front
of him
Syniad: To allow illegal PK to happen again
Someone: balzhur Orestes and his chars
Someone: Deny Vach's alts.
Milenko: PWIPE.
Narielle: Trans everyone on the mud to DH Square, and drop a Grenade on
them. :P

/ How to Roleplay - Shareed \_________________________________________________
|_____________________________________________________________________________\
So you want to roleplay...
A deeper look by Shareed Marius Dracos
Roleplay, you've heard of it, you may have seen some of it, but what exactly
is it and how do you get started?
First, what is roleplay? Roleplay is, as the name suggests, taking on a role.
The example I like to give is to consider yourself an actor in a troupe. There
are no scripts in roleplay. Instead, you're given a short introduction which
subject of the play, and then you create your own part and lines in the play.
Each of these plays is called a scene. What your character says and does is
affected by who your character is.
For example, let's imagine that the you've been told that the scene will take
place as the sun is setting in in the city of Darkhaven. You and your
companions have just arrived and been directed to the 'Grim Smile', an inn,
for the night.
There are quite a range of activities you can partake in on Realms; The most
obvious being chatting, roleplaying, golding, exploring, trading, running,
leveling, building, pking and questing. Even with such an array of things
to do, a player might still feel bored. So, this article will give you some
ideas on what you can do if you are open minded and have some spare time.
Page: 024

/ How to Roleplay - Shareed \_________________________________________________
|_____________________________________________________________________________\
From there, your characters build upon this information, creating interactions
between themselves and anyone else who might be there. Perhaps there is a bar
fight as you enter, or a beautiful bard is the center of attention for the
night. Perhaps one of your characters resembles a wanted criminal and is
mistaken as such by the innkeeper. These situations are created by you or you
roleplay companions and what happens is completely up to you and your
companions.
Let's take the last example and run with it. You're mistaken as a criminal.
Now, this is where character creation comes in. How has your character grown
up? How has the events in his life influenced the way he sees the world? What
values to they hold dear, and which do they sneer at? Did they grow up amidst
violence, have they learned that violence is the answer to everything. In this
case, your character may try to fight their way out of the situation.
Maybe your character is one who's had to survive by their wits all their life.
In this case you may try to con your way out, or use sweet words to convince
the innkeeper he's mistaken. Has your character lived a sheltered life, a
complete innocent in the ways of the world? In this case, you might let
yourself be taken, protesting your innocence, or you might clam up, too afraid
to speak.
Page: 025

/ How to Roleplay - Shareed \_________________________________________________
|_____________________________________________________________________________\
There are so many character concepts to play around with. Choose an aspect of
your character and build on it. Make a history to explain why they see things
this way. What you're trying to do is make it so that you know how your
character would react in any situation, so you need to create enough
background so that you could say "Yeah, Shareed would laugh off the accusation
demand proof of his guilt and try to keep the innkeeper from summoning the
guards. He knows he's not the criminal and he would try to use his charm and
friendly nature to convince the innkeeper."
Once you've got your character's personality down, the next step is easy. What
does your character look like? Most likely this will be affected by your past,
and your profession, which is not necessarily the class you chose in pre-auth.
This is a highly subjective process, but in general consider your description
as what someone would see if they watched you enter a room. Avoid actions of
any kind in your description and don't tell people how they feel when they see
your character. Beyond that, writing descriptions becomes a whole different
article.
Ok, so you have a cool name, a character background, you're raring to go and
roleplay! So, how do you get yourself involved?
*****To be continued*****

to do, a player might still feel bored. So, this article will give you some
ideas on what you can do if you are open minded and have some spare time.
The Deck of Many Things-
Become a Deck Hunter. Think of it as a race to the deck, for there are
other Deck Hunters out there, aspiring to pull a card from the Deck before
you do. I sometimes set out with the specific intent of finding the Deck. It
is not easy, nor is it impossible. It is challenging, especially to find it
before someone else does. The Deck, for those who don't know, will only
appear in certain rooms in certain areas. Pull a good card and you can find
yourself with 4 rename scrolls. Pull a bad card and you can be left with
no equipment on that character. A Deck Hunter will face the consequences of
any card they pull, but that's because they are smart about it. Don't risk
more than you have to. Here's a tip which won't upset other Deck Hunters;
start with Mithril Hall.
Who RP-
If you type who RP, you will notice a sizable list of people who apparently
RP. Although some of those people will be busy, not interested or afk when
you feel like roleplaying, you could always send them a tell or use a more
creative way to start roleplaying such as transporting them a cooked head of
an elf in a parcel. It could also be fun to make a new character to
roleplay on so that no one associates your roleplayed character with you.
That way, you can be as big a moron, as 'noble' and arrogant or as plain
boring as you like without it becoming your 'reputation'. The best part of
roleplaying for me is exactly that- I can pin it back onto my 'roleplayed'
character and not me. The Inn of the Singing Rose is the perfect place to
immerse yourself in a predominantly roleplaying environment. You wanted to
be the Mistress of the Mayor of Darkhaven right?!

Avatar Channel-
I don't usually have avatar channel on, but when I do, I sometimes stumble
upon some HATE or someone trying to irritate an immortal. I understand why
some people HATE avatar channel, but sometimes, I find it quite entertaining
to watch it. It reminds me of MTV's Boiling Point. If you haven't seen this
you should. For those that aren't familiar with that show, it's basically
where unwary people (contestants) are set up in an awkward situation
orchestrated by actors and there is a set time for how long a contestant has
to endure the situation until they win cash. You can think of the immortals
as the contestants who always have the patience to outlast the time or
conversely, the irritant as the contestant who will get punished when the
timer hits 0.
Build-
No need for it to be an area but...you could always post an idea at Dreams
of Glory. You want to see people die for some glory? You can make that
happen. Isn't it about time Darkhaven was invaded by green aliens with
tentacles? You want to see two teams race to rescue Judge Kendra's husband?
Speak to specific immortals if you would like to see something happen.
If you want to make a miniature area for a roleplaying quest you might be
able to work something out with Romani, even though she isn't part of QC.
Perhaps your hometown, guild, or order could do with an improvement, speak
to whoever is concerned and find out what is possible. I have done so a
couple of times and although I might not see the result I wanted, usually
something happens, and at worse, at least I tried. If more people asked
for the same thing then it might sway the opinions of those with the
ability to make a change.

Explore-
There are plenty of 'secrets' out there to discover. You can always just
ask people to tell you, but sometimes it's fun to test yourself. This is
my favourite aspect of the game, and it helps with running, building,
and questing. Start off with the most accessible areas with no difficult
level 50 aggressive mobs. They might not contain super powerful equipment,
but it will eventually help you get it as you gain experience and
knowledge. Try to also explore with a character which is the targeted
level of the area. Quite a few secrets can only be found by doing so. One
of my favourites is the Sentinel and Gauntlet areas. This area is pretty
good for a new player to explore. Try and get yourself the Sentinel glove
and the Gauntlet, as well as a cold sword. If you're looking for a
challenging non-avatar area to explore, then I would recommend Wendle
Mansion, Southern Mountain Range, the Graveyard and Abishai's Morgue.
At Wendle's Mansion, try to get yourself a mask of shadows and a useful
Cross of Divinity, and use that rune. At the Graveyard and Abishai's
Morgue, get yourself the horns of a demonkine, a stone raven and the
ceremonial sword. In the Southern Mountain Range try to find a ceremonial
arrow, the edelweiss and some ore. Do realise that when exploring any
area, your character's level, alignment, sex, class, race and other
factors may affect what your findings. At higher levels the Haven of
Everlasting Light, The Keep of Mahn-Tor, the Dunhill Demesnes and the
Temple of the Moon have some rewarding secrets to uncover. You can get
yourself a Veil of the Storm God, an ethereal plate of armor, a blazing
surcoat and a globe of moonlight from these areas.

At avatar level there are plenty of good areas to explore, many of which
probably still harbor secrets which have been forgotten by most or never
uncovered. Almost all of them will require a few different people to team
up to explore properly, but a fair amount can be done alone. You should
beware of the DTs in some of these areas.
Lake of Tich'Pyga- A huge lake with some folk with amnesia.
Desert of Despair- Contains an intriguing semi-logic puzzle and a maze
which really makes you feel like you're in a desert.
Otherlands- A very large area with many remote rooms.
Knights of the Round- A classic.
Daichaal- A compact area with a riddle like puzzle.
Octapus Gardens- Great room descriptions.
The City of Salburg- Plenty to kill, most of which you can do with three
friends.
Barren Peaks of Tahjliera- Has a very interesting deep story.
Underworld- Dangerous and an extremely difficult area to explore, truly
what one would expect of Satan's home.
Nevermore- someone please tell me what this treasure map is about!
You're also likely to meet other like minded individuals in these areas,
so perhaps you could all team up and become bestest friends ever. There
is tons of exploration to do with the advent of D'Morian's Lands, the
Slime Pit and the Von Deusen Mausoluem- so get yourself out there, and
perhaps we will meet with slime blood on our faces.

/ Important Notice: 2007 RoD Awards - Fiebin \________________________________
|_____________________________________________________________________________\
Hi guys,
As you've noticed, the Cry has been slightly late recently. Only a little.
As such the RoD awards seem to have been skipped from their regular February/
March issue.
The RoD awards WILL go ahead over the next two issues. Next issue the
categories will be posted - these will be reviewed carefully and different
from previous years, but still a mix of serious and fun.
The only reason they were not posted this issue is that, as you can probably
tell, I tried to get this posted ASAP to prevent further delay. It would
have taken a lot of time to get the RoD awards properly organised and set to
go, and that's something I've had little of lately.
I assure you, they'll be up and ready to go no later than the first week of
May. If in the meantime you have any suggestions for categories, please
MUDmail me and I'll take everything into consideration.
Like I said, both Genge and I have been incredibly tight on time lately, but
I'm making every effort so that the Cry will always be posted within the
first week of each month from now on.
Thank you again to all who read the Cry and contribute with articles. I
have some plans for the future of the Cry to give it a bit of a makeover,
with new article ideas and more. If you can think of something you'd like
to see in the Cry (even if you don't want to contribute), please MUDmail me
or send me a tell sometime.
