As far as you, as an individual is concerned, everything and \neveryone is a threat to your objectives. Do not seek allies among your kin,\nthe same way you do not seek for them among your enemies. Instead know that \nyour most important ally is your brain and your physical or magical abilities.\nOnce your planning is done and you are ready, your actions will be swift and\neffective. Any minor unforeseen occurrences will not get in the way as you \nwill be able to quickly adapt your plan to one of your alternatives.\n\nDo not, I repeat, do not trust your allies. They are there to help you conduct\nyour plan. And in time... in long\ndue time, the attention of the gods. Do not however be foolish to believe\nthis will grant you a long life by itself. You will be dead quicker than\nyou could arm yourself. There is some form of immunity you will of course\nattain. However, your enemies will grow in numbers with every bit of power.\nThey are after what you have, much the same way you were in your time. Be\nsharp and watchful. Your power will be the object of greed both among your\npeers and your enemies. Be them fellow dark followers or the impious light\nrabble. Remember, despite what they preach, they seek the same thing. While\nthey ask you to help others and be kind, they themselves seek power and\nrecognizition among their rout. Be proud of what you are. So what engages the select few who choose to \nrough it out as a deadly? I directed my focus to Mahirim, a first-time \npkiller, and level 32 vampire. Most peacefuls who haven't taken the time to \ntry a deadly believe that it would less exciting than playing a peaceful, but\nthat's not what our young friend thinks, \"I find it more exciting because   \nthere are more options over a peacful player. It's also exciting because you\ncan be hunted, and hunt other players. Overall, you get more player\ninteraction.\"\n    So what about the cold rumors that spread through the realms so fast about\nthe heartless nature of the community? To see if these were true I asked \nMahirim how he felt and to my surprise he said \"The players recognize a new \nplayer and helped me out a lot. Also surprisingly, the deadlies have been \nmore helpful than the peacefuls that I've encountered.\"\nOne of the largest shocks to a new deadly character is getting mauled by a \n20dr level 10 warrior during your early stages of leveling. \"I was surprised,\nbut not upset. At low levels I had nothing to lose, and the people who killed\nme usually didn't loot anything. It was an easy decision once\nI got my first kill (today). I even picked up an earring that I desperately\nneeded.\"\n    Well, I guess we know we can look forward to seeing some bloody war \nstories about Mahirim. So before letting him return to his newly found \nlifestyle of guts and gore, I asked him what he would say to the rest of the\npeaceful world that has yet to try a deadly character, \"I would recommend\nbeing deadly to all players. It offers an experience that is more gratifying\nthan the one that the peaceful life offers. I struggle\nwith the responsibility given to me as I hold such a powerful wand in my\nhands. I consider the many options before me, the many individuals who people\nwould wish... destroyed in such a way. I think through the people who have\noffended me in my time in the Realms... and I find that I am unable to think\nof any one who would deserve such a fate. I am either too patient or too\nforgiving to have such destructive thoughts towards another. For a moment, I\nconsider selling it, for it would have nearly incalculable value. But no, for\nwho could I trust with such power? With a sense of satisfaction, I take the\nwand to the great mage in my family and have him turn it into pure coin. (Maybe now i can find someone to love me) Then I think will make\na new class of character... it will be known as the 'whore monger'. It will\nbe a dirty fellow who specializes in drinking, partying and borrowing gold\nwith no intent to return payment. When I was a member of the Guild of Druids, Sarakin and I used \nto run together frequently. One day, we decided to go in search of a fellow \nnamed Vyhan; you may have seen him wandering the Northern Trade Route from \ntime to time pushing his cart. I attended the run on my fairly new thief, and\nwe set about finding Vyhan.\n\nLittle did I know that Vyhan wouldn't be the only person to come under fire \nthat morning... Sarakin had been in the arena practicing for an upcoming \nGuild PK. Since neither of us had a lot of time to spare, we both rushed into\nthe run. They say that when you rush things, something always goes wrong. In\nthis case, Sarakin forgot to turn off his config -nice! Alright, I reckon not every evil mage \nhas got around to owning one yet, but even if I double that figure it's still\nonly about 10% of the mage population is evil :( .. What is it about being \ndevout that holds such a fascination? I think perhaps much is due to how \nthings were a couple of years ago and the fact that people stubbornly resist \nchange. In the way the world was 2 years ago, all mages had the same slist, \nalignment was of no consequence except for determining which equipment you \ncould wear, as such people dressed up in high mana equipment (devout \nequipment) and were happy. I'm not one to dwell on the past so lets stick \nwith the present. At present we have differences in the slist thanks to\nalignment. The differences are completely one sided, evil mages get *more*.\nWe have 'anima drain', 'charm' and 'hand of chaos'. Those spells alone are \nenough to make one drool at the prospect of owning an evil mage.\n\n'Anima drain' simply restores your mana at a rate of 50 per hit, this means \nthat you can cast a spell like paradox flux (45 mana cost) indefinetly by \nalternating it with anima drain. Alternatively, use it as a turbo-trance;\nGo somewhere with some easy mobs and spam anima at them until you are fully\ncharged. There is serious side to the spell. Did \nyou know charmed mobs will flee if they are attacked and their owner isn't in\nthe room? Did you know you can spelldown your own charmie without being \nattacked? Did you know: c charm mob, order mob rem all, order mob drop all?\nA favourire strategy of mine when running Zeus is to charm all the citizens\nand put them to sleep in the dungeons, otherwise (a) they pick up disarmed \nweapons, (b) they join in fights and make your neut runners zap stuff :(.\n\nHow about giving it a shot, go evil today! I can almost hear all you devouts\nsaying \"No way! I have all this dev mage gear I can't change. It'll cost too\nmuch\" Well rubbish. Much mage gear is non-aligned; wizrings, Robe of the Magi,\nMillenium, Guen bracelets, Crystal dragon bracers. Scales come in evil just as\neasily as devout, but df talismans are usually prefered and easy to pick up\nfrom traffic. The FT shield is anti-neutral so evils can wear it just as well\nas devouts, same goes for Godskull shinguards.
