This\nseemed to be something that was becoming a common occurrence. The bed I was\nlying in was soft. The room was warm. The ceiling was an off white, well more\nbrown really. Suddenly my stomach began to rumble. \"That is what woke me\nup,\" I decided. I sat up and took a look at the rest of the room. The walls \nwere the same tan color as the ceiling and the floor was the same bleached\nand worn wood that I have discovered to be the norm for inns all over the\nworld. The wash basin was filled with clean, fresh water. I walked over and\nwashed my face and tried to recall what happened the previous day.\n That was easy enough. I met Charity and she had healed me. She had\nalso set me up in this inn. I couldnt understand why she had done that. I\nvowed to find out. I saw the fruit from the night before still sitting on\nthe night stand. I took a slice of apple and absently ate it. Charity said\nshe would meet me here this morning. Would she come to my room or was I to\nmeet her in the common area?\n I looked around for my clothes and quickly got dressed. I was going\nto need new clothes it seemed. Stoneheft cites his\nmotivation for building this area as two fold, one, because there were no\norganized groups of thieves preying on the traffic on trade routes, and two,\nhe likes adding areas that tie in a few areas together, giving players more\nchoice in going from A to B. (Look out for the Sewer entrance!). \nIn the long run, we may be getting additions to the theme of Major Oak, or\nin his words, \"it might inspire a need for me to build something over ETR, NTR\nor even High Road through SMR.'\". Gonnil gave\neveryone advanced notice of the quest through a note on Archives. The advanced\nnotice is definitely appreciated. First, it likely increases the competition.\nSecondly, mortals can log on specifically to participate in the event. No time\nwasted from idling. Finally, those in quieter timezones definitely see\nfar fewer quests than their counterparts in busier timezones and the advanced\nnotice enables them to log on for the special event. \n\nThe quest lasted for 1 hour. The concept is identical to that of the bettle\nbashing game. Instead of bashing bettles, you bashed up slugs. There were 4\nrounds of approximately equal duration. King's Castle was the arena. King's \nCastle was an excellent choice. It wasn't an overly enormous area, nor was it \ntoo small, and there were definitely parts of the area which were less\nfrequented.\n\nThe reactions of the mobs also added a very interesting element to the quest. \nThe guards and most of the other mobs often joined in fights against the \nquester, especially if they were evil aligned. The guards and some of the \nother mobs also disarmed, and the maidservants would pick up disarmed weapons. \nFitzgerald even threw weapons out the room. This definitely added an element \nof risk, especially for those using good weapons. I had my DFB disarmed by\nFitz and I immediately feared that someone would pick up the weapon and\nclaim it as their own.\n\nContinued... Page: 034\n_______________________________________________________________________________\n|_____________________________________________________________________________\/\n\n ________________________________________\n\/ Quest News - Slug Infestation - Fiebin \\____________________________________\n|_____________________________________________________________________________\\\n\nLuckily no such incident occured, though I would think that Gonnil would\nrectify any such undesirable conduct. I did hear one of the pkers yell that\nthey had lost their weapon during the quest. Fortunately, it turned out\nthat a maidservant had them.\n\nThere were 4 different types of slugs and each killing blow made on the slug\nearned the kber the associated points. Small slugs were worth 2 points.\nMedium slugs - 5 points. Large slugs - 15 points. Queen slugs - 50 points.\nEach quester's score was also automatically recorded and that meant that they\ncould quit to stop a guard from pursuing them for example. Kill stealing was\nalso allowed and this meant that strategy played a very important role in\nthe quest. \n\nMelee damage was by far the most reliable source of damage. This meant that\nthose of the fighter genre, vampires and rogue genre had an advantage over\nthe other classes. Further, warriors and barbarians were able to stun slugs\nand classes with big alpha attacks (fathomers\/thieves) were able to time that\nattack so as to increase their chances of making the killing blow.\n\nIn either round 3 or 4 there were packs of queen slugs on steroids. They managed\nto kill some questers as they were able to cast execrate and abolition and there\nwere 3 of them in a room.\n\nContinued... The first part\nof the quest was to collect numbers and mathematic signs (add, subtract, divide, \nmultiply) which were randomly dispersed around realms. The second part of the\nquest was to use the numbers and mathematic signs to make an equation with a\nsolution that was equal to the 'magic numbers'. Destre had listed a short list\nof around 7 different numbers which were designated magic numbers. Each\nquester was allowed to submit 2 equations and glory was given according to the\ncomplexity of the equation. For example, the magic number of 999 could be\nmade by:\n\n1) Finding the number 9 three times. \n2) Finding the number 7, 2, 6, 3, 8 and 1. As well as three addition signs.\n(7+2)= 9. (6+3)= 9. (8+1)= 9.\n3) Many other ways.\n\nQuesters were allowed to trade numbers and signs with each other. It was\na fun quest which definitely left me very confused during the 2nd part. I was\nconstantly trying to find the best combination of equations whilst trying to\ntrade numbers and signs which I thought I needed.
